Clinical Experience Series: Episode 1

Welcome back to our Blog! As you guys know we have started a "Clinical Experience Series" whereby we have been asking students studying Physical Therapy at UWI Mona, Jamaica to expound upon their clinical placements and their overall experience thus far. This was created with the aim of helping other students within the program to get an idea of how the clinical rotations were for each year and possibly to provide them with additional advice in the process. Today, we will highlight one final year student's thoughts on her second year placement within a public healthcare facility in Jamaica.

This is what she had to say.

Name: Davia Guthrie

Current Year: 3 (final year)

Clinical Rotation Mentioned: Year 2

"My clinical experience was an interesting and overwhelming one. Every week there was a new challenge awaiting me. From seeing and being able to assist with treating multiple trauma patients in ICU to having work with very difficult patients who refuse to work with you. It was all very intense but insightful and it gave me a good grasp of what it will be like as a professional in this field"

Thank you Davia for sharing your experience with us and from it we can appreciate more the very demanding yet diverse nature of this career field. Physical Therapy is much more than just massage as we treat a variety of cases including orthopedic, cardiopulmonary, neurological, pediatrics, women's health, pre- and post- surgery patients as well as other medical cases which may or may not require hospitalization.

Thank you for reading!
