The Interview Process for Physical Therapy In Jamaica

 

The Department of  Physical Therapy at UWI Mona Campus, Jamaica requires prospective physical therapy students to undergo a mandatory interview prior to admission into the program. This interview, like any other, is very important and performing well will increase your chances of being accepted for this very competitive degree. The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus is the only university that offers such a degree to the region which means, you will not only be competing for a space with locals but all students within the region. Therefore, it is crucial that you ace this interview and do everything within your power to make a good and long lasting impression. We at ATP have compiled a list of frequently asked questions as well as some tips that we hope will help you to maximize your chances of getting accepted into this program. 

After you have sent in your completed application, there are two important things that must be done before acceptance: Your Volunteer Hours & The Interview. If you are considered for admission, you will be contacted via email or receive a telephone call stating the date, time and venue of your interview. 

This interview as stated is organized directly by the Department of Physical Therapy at UWI, Mona and the Head of Department at the Physical Therapy Department in a General Hospital near you. Please be on the lookout for this as you wait for acceptance into the program. If substantial time has passed and you have not received any feedback, don't hesitate to contact Admissions at UWI Mona or the Physical Therapy Department at UWI Mona campus.

Once you have acknowledged the scheduled interview date and time, you must prepare for it adequately. This includes dressing appropriately and familiarizing yourself with some of the questions they may ask. You are also required to walk with original certificates of academic qualifications and the confidential volunteer form if not previously uploaded.

  4. Professional blouse, skirt, pants or dress
  • Don'ts 
  1. No sleeveless tops
  2. No jeans, tights or other revealing clothing

The questions asked may not be exactly as stated but still intend to get the same response out of you. The interviewer wants to be reassured that you are ready for this leap and equipped with the necessary tools to deal with this change. You must be able to effectively acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses as an individual and how you plan to adjust or change to accommodate this very flexible and ever-changing career. They also want to know that you are able to deal with extreme stress and have sufficient coping mechanisms and a strong support system to help you navigate through difficult times, as this program may become very overwhelming due to the workload and nature of the field itself. Lastly, they are interested in why you want to become a physical therapist and assessing if you will actually make an excellent one based not only on your grades, but also key personality traits such as compassion, dedication, determination, perseverance, patience and kindness, just to name a few.
